Backwoods Home is where the "Rubber meets the road" concerning self sufficient living. Ordinary authors write comprehensive articles that enable the experienced to hone their skills & the inexperienced to learn effective skills that help turn dreams & curiosity into reality. This mag is not written by celebrity theorists, but by people who have practiced before they preach. I started reading about self sufficiency in the mid '60's and this one is the most helpful, covering all manner of DIY projects, which truly enables almost anyone to live self sufficiently/independently. A very nice feature is that all their back issues are available in annual anthologies.Product details

Backwoods Home Magazine #122 Mar/Apr 2010 eBook Backwoods Home Magazine Reviews
I like looking thru these older books for new info and sometimes to re- affirm my own knowledge. Sometimes these give me ideas to try or a project I'd like to do.
Full of useful and timely information. Excellent for preppers and those homesteading. Would seriously recommend it to everyone. Things your parents should have taught you, but didn't (or we've forgotten over the years).
I used to subscribe to the print version. This is better as it does not attract silverfish or get moldy in the basement.
I absolutely LOVE this magazine! I have learned so much. I want desperately to be able to live a self-reliant type of lifestyle but, at this point, have to have one foot on the farm and the other in a city job. Every little bit I glean helps me where I am and prepares me for where I want to be should the opportunity arise.
Another charming installment of country wisdom from an era we seemed to have forgotten. The potatoes planted in hay are a trick I'm going to try. The vegetarian thing won't sell at my house. The kitchen pharmacy article is interesting.
Having been a reader of BWH for years I have nothing but praise for the magazine and staff. BWH is filled with great info on leading a simpler more sustainable lifestyle. Topics range from gardening to self protection with a Libertarian twist. In my opinion BWH is the premier magazine of its type.
Backwoods Home always comes through with very useful articles--there is always at least one that I can implement the day I get the magazine. I also appreciate how they keep their political views confined to their editorial articles, unlike a lot of other homesteading/simple living publications; it takes discipline to set up a magazine like that. I particularly enjoyed this issue for the drinking water article, which explained water treatment in detail I hadn't seen anywhere else, and the gardening articles. Highly recommended.
